DRINK: Plunge, Rooftop at the Gansevoort HotelImage

So the W just had its topping off, but it’s still under construction. The Gansevoort next door, however, is up and running in the too-fabulous-for-words-boutique-hotel contest. Immerse yourself at Plunge (Plunge = pool + lounge, get it?) on the rooftop. Until 6 p.m., the pool area–––the largest rooftop pool in the world at 110 feet long–––is reserved for hotel guests only. After that, feel free to rent one of the VIP cabanas with flat screen TVs and room for up to 10 people. No, you can’t swim, silly. This is a nice place. Closer to the bar, collect on the white couches in the open air with soaring views of the Atlantic on one side and the Bay on the other. The house iPod mixes rock. The crowd is sophisticated. And you’ll look beautiful holding your cocktail, baby. Maybe it’s a lychee or a strawberry-champagne mojito ($14). Maybe it’s champagne ($16) to pair with choices from the sushi and sashimi menu. The place doesn’t close until 2 or 3 a.m., and hey: You can always get a room. Image
